Last week, Glenn Beck jumped on a rumor, supplied by Michael Goldbarb, and subsequently denied by all involved parties, that alleged “the White House threatened to put Nebraska’s Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn’t fall into line”. Beck claimed that “if it is true”, which it isn’t, then it is close to “treason”.
I wonder how quick Beck was to cry, “treason”, at more substantiated cases of politicians cutting or threatening to cut defense funding. You know, like when Senate Republicans filibustered a defense appropriations bill in hopes of delaying a vote on the Senate’s health care bill. Or when teabagging hero, Doug Hoffman, “signed a statement promising not to request earmarks” – money which included the $114 million worth of funds to support construction on the district’s military base, Fort Drum – if he had won the NY-23 election.
